HCA TriStar, a 20-hospital group owned by HCA, has purchased 33 acres in Spring Hill, Tenn., next to the site where the company hopes to eventually build a new hospital, according to The Nashville Business Journal.

The purchase was made despite HCA TriStar lacking official approval for their plan to build a $110 million, 56-bed acute care hospital in Spring Hill.

HCA TriStar has wanted to build a full-service hospital and adjacent medical office since 2006, but has struggled to obtain an uncontested certificate of need (CON), according to a press release from the health system.

HCA believes it is closer to acquiring the CON needed to proceed with construction because the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency (HSDA) has recently recognized the community’s need for such a hospital by a vote of seven to one.

In light of HSDA’s decision, the company bought the land preemptively for future development.

The proposed hospital is expected to create approximately 300 full-time jobs, have a 24-hour emergency department, and offer inpatient services, magnetic resonance imaging, cardiology, general surgery, outpatient surgery, obstetrics, cancer care, intensive care and diagnostic services, according to HCA TriStar.
