The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has released three National Coverage Determinations, which state that CMS will not pay for surgical errors.

The NCDs, which have an implementation date of July 6, 2009, say that CMS will not cover surgeries performed on the wrong patient or the wrong site or for the wrong surgery.
