A considerably smaller Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital is scheduled to reopen for service in 2013, now that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved the plan, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.
The hospital, built in 1972, will undergo a $350 million renovation, including a new outpatient clinic, and have 120 beds as compared with its previous count of 233 beds.
The new King Hospital will be a partnership between the county and the University of California and will be overseen by a new nonprofit agency with a seven-member board.
