Novant has promised to invest more than $240 million to help PWHS improve its services, including updating its critical care unit, constructing a state-of-the art cardiac catheterization lab, recruiting more than 50 new physician specialists, building a new hospital in the rapidly growing Haymarket area of Prince William County and adding more private patient rooms to the system's existing Prince William Hospital, according to the release.
Under the merger agreement, PWHS will retain its name and identity and continue to be governed by its local board of trustees. One PWHS member will sit on Novant's board and one Novant member will sit on PWHS' board, according to the release. All donations to the PWHS Foundation will continue to stay within the community.
